Research and Progress

So I'm going on some fairly long bus trips this weekend and figured it was a good time to get some new books. Pictured below is a very recent haul of reading material that I'm hoping will keep me occupied and designing while the rest of me is stuck in chairs for five hours at a time.

Left to Right;
Sandman Mystery Theater Vol.1 - I can't remember if I've read this one before, but I absolutely love Guy Davis and his sketchy pulp style. He's more known for his work in the B.P.R.D. series by Dark Horse Comics, or even his creature designs for Guillermo Del Toro. Anyway, this will probably sate my need for Noir, and maybe influence my biting the bullet on Strange Aeons, which I've been eyeing for some time now.

Frostgrave Thaw of the Lich Lord & Forgotten Pacts - Before this week, I only had the Frostgrave Rulebook, and a PDF of the Dark Alchemy Supplement. I realize that since there are 3 (soon to be 4) expansion books out there, and while I'm working on my own scenarios, there's a likelihood that I could accidentally make redundant work. Rather than find out I've blogged up something less than useful, I picked up these books and ordered the current Nickstarter for the Folio. To finish up my collection, I'll have to get Into the Breeding Pits, but for now, I'm going to pour over these and avoid writing any underground scenarios.

Mutants and Death Ray Guns - I'm a really big fan of Andrea Sfiligoi, and I've already gotten Song of Blades and Heroes, and Rogue Stars in my growing collection of skirmish games. In fact, I've already written up a roster for Tomblin's Expedition so that I can play her in SoBH against my brother's halfling warband. At the moment I'm working on a new line of sculpts for MDRG so that any upcoming demos I do have a consistency to them. Also, I just like sculpting, and my friends will maybe think its even cooler that I make my own figures. Shrug.

Speaking of which, I really need to sculpt some Blue Hags and Eyeballs.

  1. Looking forward to more scenarios! Have you seen the 'Warriors of Athena' scenario that the designer did?
