Goblins for Breakfast - Update 1
Last time we met, I'd made a post of intention to bring my goblins that I'd amassed for Warhammer the Old World from primed to painted. Now, I've chipped ten merry souls away from the pristine horde and covered them in green, ready to take on whatever funny foe my friends might throw my way.
First up we have a quartet of archers (Dessicated Dope, Harlequin, Olley's Armies, Harlequin,) perched where they can see the enemy and shoot... hopefully at the enemy. I really love the range of ranges on display, and how wildly different the goblins look. In my interpretation of the fantasy setting, the term goblin is just a catch all for "things that look like goblins," which could be classified by any number of traits, potentially contradictory but all correct nonetheless. Goblin. It's what's for breakfast.
A Nasty Skulker and an Oddgit (GW and OSM) share an invisible picnic and argue about literature. Although I chose to keep it understated, I very much appreciate the wizard's staff also having a nasty sneer.
Four goblins with hand weapons and shields (Knightmare, Dessicated Dope, Harlequin) raring to smash and bonk (the more lighthearted versions of rip and tear.) I could wax about the Dessicated Dope minis, who were a last minute addition to the army, on account of their peculiar propotions and poses. Its clearer in pictures further down the page, but there's something really special about seeing these grotesques in the round, as the figures are incredibly foreshortened from certain angles, whereas in others they're stretched like the animation principal. Lovely and wonky, and happily homed in this collection.

In addition to the minis, I decided to finish up some terrain so that they'd have things to fight over and stand on (it came in very handy for the photoshoot.
Three hills (the one in the shoot plus these two.)
Two pools of standing and/or stagnant water. Rough terrain on the best of days!
The pile of leftovers. I'm excited to see what I choose to paint next! I'm thinking about color schemes for the trolls, so perhaps one or two of those? I've also considered changing the goblin flesh scheme to create some further variety.
One other thing I've tooled up are three loot tokens, as requested by the Battle March General's Companion book. I chose a handful of sculpts from the Reaper line to represent a merchant and his mooks carrying their wares through an overgrown and rocky mountain pass. Not to toot my own horn, but I quite like the dynamism I accomplished with the reposing of the two teams of treasure toters, by having them descend and struggle with the weight of their loads. The merchant might need another bit of embellishment, but that can wait until the next blog post.
And finally, the group portrait. Everyone looks like an idiot, just like in real life. Happy Orktober everyone!
(oh yeah, these are definitely going to be run as orcs in warhammer fantasy 6th. don't tell yer mum)
